On Reading the Bible Literally — That is, What it ACTUALLY Says

Solonsays:

For all the American Christians who profess to be Bible ‘believers,’ very few seem to have read it critically.

Abraham was the head of crime family.
The children of Abraham majored in hating one another and killing each other.
Joseph was the first propagandist — reading the pharaoh’s dreams = a 3rd millenium BC version of “messing with your mind and creating fear.” Once Joseph got himself established in Egypt, the rest of the clan joined him; Egyptians gave the clan the choicest land — Land of Goshen, and treated them royally. Hebrews lived in Egypt & prospered for nearly 500 yrs. Now, what is one of Jewry’s primary holidays — Passover, right? The celebration of the slaying of Egyptian children & government after polluting their land and ravaging their crops.

That was just the warm-up; yahweh made them do it, in order to collect on y’s promise that they could kill Canaanites, destroy Jericho, the most ancient and prosperous settled village in the region, and take it over.

The temple in my neighborhood has this carved above its front door: “Hear o Israel the lord our god is one.” The rest of that bible passage reads:

“10 And it shall be, when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,M.b>

11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
12 Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
13 Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.”

How do you say in Yiddish, Such a deal?

Thomas Jefferson pegged Judaism over 200 years ago: It is morally deficient.

The Bible is NOT the ‘good book’ or life’s guide; the Bible — Old Testament, any way, is the problem.
